Sixth Step: Going Home
Going home from rehab is an exciting and scary time, but when you have the right tools, such as an aftercare program that works, alumni groups, and a strong support network, returning to your life can be easier than you imagine.

Addiction Aftercare Programs: Everything You Need To Know

As a client begins to wrap up their treatment program, they will likely begin to wonder what comes next. What happens after you leave treatment? How do you stay strong in your recovery efforts? Are you just left alone to struggle through? Do you have to continue with long-term treatment?

What is Aftercare? How is it Put Together?

Aftercare is a strategy to help people continue a strong recovery journey. When a strong aftercare program is put in place and followed, the chances for a healthy, successful recovery improve dramatically over those who leave rehab without a plan for continued care.

When you come to the end of your treatment program, you will meet with your treatment team to begin building an aftercare program that will work for you. This might include 12-step meetings, therapy sessions, and check-ins with your current treatment team.

You may also find that choosing a sober living facility as your next step is a strong option to help you continue your addiction recovery. When you’re living with others who are choosing to continue overcoming their addictions, you have like-minded roommates, and this can foster a sense of community and constant support throughout your journey.

Do I Have to Go Home After I Leave Treatment?

Sometimes, returning to the same place you were before you began treatment can be a trigger that can put you on the road to relapse. You and your treatment team will discuss what places will be beneficial for your continued recovery, and which ones might be harmful. You can talk about alternatives and options to help you begin your new sober life.

Are alcohol and drugs ruining your life?

We have taken the necessary precautions to minimize the risk of exposure and transmission of the Coronavirus to those in our treatment programs, allowing them to focus on their recovery.

What About Others Who Have Completed Treatment at Willow Springs?

Spending as much time in a place as our alumni have spent with us creates a culture that can become comforting and beneficial in continuing recovery. This is why we’ve created an alumnus group that has meetings. If you want to continue your recovery journey with us, then this is a great place to start.

Maintain your connection and growth, as well as gain new perspective and support during this time with us.

Networking with others who have undergone addiction treatment and are still working to maintain an addiction-free lifestyle can be one of the most important elements of long-term recovery success. Studies show that those who have a strong community of people also going through the recovery process often do better in maintaining a sober lifestyle.

That’s why we’ve developed our alumni group for those who have completed treatment with us and are working to continue their recovery process. It is a place where you can connect with others who are going through the same journey. This is a safe place to get and give support, and enjoy the camaraderie of having gone through similar treatment processes.

Additionally, we have a Willow Springs alumni Facebook page that you can join for connection any time. So, no matter the time of day, you can find kinship and support from others going through recovery, too.
