Living a Better Life

Live your best life.

10 tips for living a better life.

How to improve your life.

We’re always seeing articles and news stories about how to live a better life. It seems we all want better lives, or at least magazine editors and news producer think we want them.

If we’re newly sober, it’s even more clear that we want to improve our lives. If we’ve gone through the difficult work of rehab, we’ve already made a huge commitment to improve our lives.

But even after rehab, there are some things we can do to make our newly improved lives even better. Some of these steps include:

  • Paying attention to our surroundings. If we struggled with drug or alcohol problems, we probably didn’t pay attention to much besides drugs or alcohol. As newly sober people, we no longer have those distractions and are able to notice other things in our lives.
  • Connecting to others. Sadly, our relationships might have been some of the things we might not have noticed during our drug or alcohol abuse. During our sobriety, we might have to work to repair such relationships or we might want to form relationships with new people.
  • Giving to others. We can repair these relationships by giving to others. We can be more generous and patient with the people in our lives. These actions might acknowledge that during the worst of our drug or alcohol problems, we might not have been so generous.
  • Learning. Rehab is a learning experience for many people. This care teaches people about their addictions and about themselves. Why should the learning end in rehab? Learning also helps people accomplish the other steps on this list. People can learn things about others, then can give to these people and connect to them.

A lot of these steps show that rehab and sobriety are not just about the addicted individual. Addiction touches the friends and relatives of addicts. Luckily, recovery can too.
