Coricidin HBP Cough C (also known as Triple C) is a commonly used brand of cold medicine. It can be very addicting to those who abuse it. It contains the cough suppressant dextromethorphan (DXM). DXM is often used in brands of cold medicine on the market. When the cough suppressant dextromethorphan is consumed in high doses it can cause hallucinations, dissociation, delusions, and much more. Fifteen states banned minors from being able to buy medicines with dextromethorphan. However, teens seem to keep getting their hands on this drug. Many teenagers like the thrill of the hallucinogenic effects they get from using it. Triple C is often sold in a liquid or a candy-like form. Many adults and teens call it the drug skittles because it resembles the sweet tasting skittles candy. Coricidin HBP has a few different appearances including:

  • Round red tablets
  • Red soft-gel tablets
  • Oblong red tablets

Many people who are addicted to this type of drug usually consume large doses of it. They mainly take the pill form. However, you should know people can get a powder form of dextromethorphan over the internet which they usually snort or inject into their body.

Triple C also known as dextromethorphan is a hallucinogen. The more a person consumes of this dangerous drug, the more intense the side effects can be overall. Some of the common side effects related to Triple C  include the following:

  • Vision changes
  • Slurred speech
  • Poor muscle control
  • Hallucinations
  • Delusions
  • Stomach pain
  • High or increased blood pressure
  • Erratic heartbeat
  • Brain damage

According to the U.S Department of Justice, the side effects of Coricidin HBP medicines can last for 6 hours or longer when the drug is taken in high doses. Typically, the medicine is safe if people take it as instructed, which is usually is: 10 – 30 milligrams every 6 hours. However, in high doses, the medicine can cause an adverse reaction. In even higher doses, people could overdose. Some of the symptoms of a DXM overdose are intense hallucinations, seizures, increased blood pressure, increased body temperature, and breathing issues.

Another effect of Triple C is toxic psychosis. This is a mental condition in which a person has problems grasping reality. Do you know anyone who has become addicted to this drug? >Ways to Prevent Triple C Usage

According to several law enforcement agencies, Triple C is mostly being misused by teenagers. The way most teens get their hands on this drug is by stealing it. They take it out of medicine cabinets and from stores. This is why many retailers have begun putting the medicine behind the counter. It is also why many parents have started locking their medicine cabinets up as well.

It can be difficult to know if your child is misusing Triple C. However, a few symptoms to look for include the following:

  • Sweating
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Trouble breathing
  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness

You can also look for empty medicine packages in the trash or items missing out of your medicine cabinet. Teens can also become easily irritated and hostile towards their parents and teachers. Drug abuse among teens can cause mental and physical issues for the child and last long into their adulthood. The three main ways to prevent your child from taking Triple C are communicating with your child about drugs, tracking your child’s internet usage, and knowing the activities your child participants in. This way you know what types of things they are doing throughout the day.

It is important to understand Triple C and its effects, especially if you or a loved one is misusing it. Do you know a teen or anyone else who has been abusing this drug? If so, try reaching out to them. If it is a child, you could inform their parents. Do your best to get them or yourself into an addiction rehab center.
