Looking at Time

Although the Fourth of July is already over, we still have a lot of summer left to celebrate. Of course, my mom always says that once the Fourth of July comes around, the rest of the summer just flies by. Let’s hope that Mom’s wrong for once.

It’s funny how we look at time, isn’t it? As a kid, I remember being so booored during the long days of summer, yet the summer was never long enough. September always came too fast.

Addiction can also alter the way a person views time. Abusing drugs and alcohol can lead a person to lose track of time. People under the influence might not know how long they’ve been using or even what time it is. If they black out, they aren’t even conscious.

Along those same lines, people can lose days, weeks, months, or even years to their substance use disorder. Finding treatment can help these people gain control of their lives again.

But while they are seeking treatment at rehab facilities, people might have a different perception of time. Rehab experiences can save lives, but they aren’t easy. People might think that their time in rehab is dragging, that their rehab stays will never end.

Obviously, stays in rehab do end. That’s why it’s important for people in rehab centers to make the most of their times in the centers.

Rehab centers offer all sorts of treatments to treat all sorts of substance use disorder. They provide tools to help people become and stay sober. Why wouldn’t a person take advantage of those tools?

Rehab centers also offer therapy. You know what some therapists can do? Help their patients with time management skills. Therapists can help people manage their time and ultimately manage their lives. It’s funny that the way we approach time can help or hurt our lives.

Are alcohol and drugs ruining your life?
